EQUATURE IN PRACTICE · CLOSED-LOOP WORKFLOW

Build readiness through learning, practice, and proof.

Give every lesson a place to be practiced and every practice session a follow-up. Connect Apprentice, SmartSim, SmartTRAC, and ViewPoint around the behavior your trainer needs to see.

Can the learner repeat the skill across practice and supervised work?

THE STARTING POINT

A defined skill in the dispatcher’s training plan.

A new dispatcher is preparing for a more demanding call type. The trainer wants to build the skill before supervised live work and use each observation to choose the next lesson.

THE TOOLS IN THIS LOOP

Carry the objective and the evidence between steps. Your team owns the review, the handoff, and the next decision.

FOLLOW THE WORK

One step informs
the next.

Keep the original question in view all the way through the follow-up.

  1. Training lead

Start with a specific learning objective.

Define the expected behavior in the training plan. Choose a relevant Apprentice course and review the agency procedures the learner will need to apply, using the licensed SmartTRAC training tools where available.

    What carries forward

A shared objective, relevant learning, and criteria for the next observation.

  2. Trainer + learner

Give the lesson a realistic practice opportunity.

Select a SmartSim call or radio scenario and an appropriate difficulty. Observe how the learner applies the target skill, including practice CAD work when it is relevant to the exercise.

    What carries forward

An observed attempt that reveals strengths and specific gaps.

  3. Trainer

Record what happened and choose the next adjustment.

Discuss the exercise with the learner. Document the observed behavior through your training evaluation or DOR process, where configured, and decide what should be reinforced or practiced again.

    What carries forward

Feedback and a next step that another trainer can understand.

  4. Trainer + learner

Return to the lesson that addresses the gap.

Revisit relevant Apprentice material or change the SmartSim exercise to focus on the difficult moment. Repeat the observation against the same criteria so progress is easier to assess.

    What carries forward

A second attempt and a clear comparison with the first.

  5. Trainer + supervisor

Carry the skill into supervised work.

As the agency’s training plan permits, review relevant supervised communications in ViewPoint and document observations in SmartTRAC. Use the broader readiness evaluation to decide whether to progress, reinforce, or revisit learning.

    What carries forward

A trainer-led readiness decision and the next training objective.

CLOSE THE LOOP

Let observed performance choose the next lesson.

Readiness develops through repeated evidence. A completed course starts the conversation; practice, supervised observations, and your agency’s evaluation process determine the next step.

When a gap appears in practice or supervised work, return to the matching learning objective and repeat the loop.

THE SOFTWARE IN THE WORKFLOW

Practice the skill your training plan is trying to build.

Use SmartSim to make the objective observable, then carry the debrief into SmartTRAC and choose the next Apprentice lesson or practice activity.

LOOK FOR THE CHANGE

Measure the result
the loop was built for.

Establish a baseline and compare like with like. Use the evidence to decide whether to continue, adjust, or choose a different action.

Skill across attempts

Compare the same behavior in successive exercises and supervised observations.

Trainer continuity

Check whether the next trainer can see the objective, prior feedback, and the agreed follow-up.

Readiness evidence

Bring learning, simulations, and documented observations into the agency’s readiness decision.
